The Importance of Your Annual Wellness Visit

Your Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) is one of the most important visits you can have each year. It is a free benefit for Medicare members and helps you and your doctor make a plan to stay healthy.

During this visit, your doctor will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Check your risk for certain health problems
  • Make a plan for screenings and follow-up care
  • Discuss your medications
  • Talk with you about how you’re feeling, both physically and emotionally

This visit is not a physical exam. Instead, it is a conversation and check-in that helps your doctor understand your health needs and support you during the year.

Bring ALL your medications to your visit

This includes:

  • Prescription medications

  • Over-the-counter medicines

  • Vitamins

  • Herbal supplements

Bringing your medication bottles helps your doctor make sure everything is safe, correct, and working well together. It can also help prevent serious problems.

Why the AWV matters

Having an Annual Wellness Visit can:

  • Find health issues early

  • Help manage chronic conditions

  • Lower your risk of emergency room visits

  • Help you stay active and independent

Many health plans also offer rewards when you complete your AWV. Ask your health plan or broker about 2025 incentives.
